Sometimes I get annoying / irritating BEEP sound from my notebook. My office environment is very quiet, and the moment the BEEP sound emits from my notebook, my office colleagues will start to turn their heads around to see what I’m doing.

This guide can be used if you want to turn off system BEEP for a particular virtual machine in VMware. Alternatively, you can do it for all virtual machines by following the guide below.

This guide can be used for Windows XP / Vista / 2003.

Method 1

  1. Click on Start -> Run.
  2. Type cmd in the Run dialog box.
  3. Type net stop beep.
  4. Type sc config beep start= disabled.
  5. You will see the output as below.
  6. Type exit to close the Command Prompt.

Method 2

  1. Click on Start -> Run.
  2. Type compmgmt.msc in the Run dialog box.
  3. Computer Management dialog box will appear.
  4. On the left column, select Device Manager.
  5. On the menu, click on View and select Show hidden devices.
  6. The right column will refresh by itself.
  7. Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers.
  8. Select Beep and right click select Properties.
  9. On the Beep Properties dialog box, select Driver tab.
  10. Under Current status -> Status, click on Stop button.
  11. Under Startup -> Type, select Disabled in the drop down menu.
  12. Click on OK to apply.
  13. Click on the X to close the Computer Management dialog box.
