Thank you so much! Not even on the VMWare forums could I find this information. Thank you very much! I can now get some nostalgia in me with some old games. 🙂
Very very Thanks! works correctly.
Wow. That’s all I can say. How you figured it out, I’ll never know.
I got the “error” (installer asking me to insert the Win98 CD) not just once but about 20-30 times, but I could only find a few of the files it wanted in the zip folder. When I restarted and opened Device Manager I saw that SB PCI(WM) was not installed correctly – it had a yellow “warning” icon. I tried to go to the settings tab to add the waveset and see if that could resolve it, but the tab said “You do not have sufficient security privileges…” I guess if I had the Win98 CD I originally used to install the OS I might be able to resolve this?
Grazieeeee mi serviva proprio!!!! (thank you!!!!)
Litlle surpise: Works also with most builds of longhorn
Dude, worked great first try. Spent untold hours trying to figure this out, thanks.
What about “PCI system peripheral” driver?
Yes, it doesn’t work as it always asks for a “PCI system peripheral” driver that it can’t find and there’s no way to find out which device this could be as there’s no info on Vendor and device ID.
🙁
this is so awesome – thank you
Wish to add my thanks. Works perfectly.
The “PCI system peripheral” device is something else which I haven’t figured out yet but this fixes the sound.
Thanks again!
You are a genius, works like a charm, thank you very much! 🙂
If you want to solve the “PCI system peripheral device problem” just install Intel PCI Test Card driver (Windows has it already) and problem is instantly solved. Thank you very much.
Not the right forum, but where do I find the Intel PCI Test Card driver that Jacko mentions? It does not seen to be in Win98SE
It is under “Other Detected Devices”-Intel-Intel PCI Test Card
The gift that just keeps on giving. Thanks for this. Nice that it’s still near the top with Google search.
This had been driving me mad for days. Especially as I had already downloaded the SBPCI_WebDrvsV5_12_01.exe file, only for it to tell me that it was for 98 SE onwards.
Thanks – it all works perfectly now thanks to the above.
Thanks! I needed the waveset for my SoundBlaster PCI 64 card
Not even the creative website had it.
Oh, thank you, thank you! I thought I never had sound on my Windows 98 virtual machine!
It worked fine, except for one thing. When I try to play sound in ActiveMovie Control, all I get is “Cannot play back the audio stream,” followed by either “no audio hardware is installed” or “the audio format is not supported.” Anyworkaround for this? Thanks. Greatly appreciated.
What program do you use to extract the files with?
